Accessibility at Strange Little Obsessions
We want Strange Little Obsessions to be an event where people can enjoy horror, alternative culture and creativity without unnecessary barriers.
We know that accessibility needs are different for everyone, and that not everyone has a formal diagnosis, documentation or an Access Card.
If there is something that would make attending easier for you, please get in touch with us. We would much rather have a conversation and see what we can do than have you decide the event isn’t accessible to you.
Essential Companion Tickets
Free Essential Companion tickets are available for attendees who need another person with them in order to access the event.
If you have a Nimbus Access Card, you can use this when requesting your companion ticket.
You do not need to have an Access Card to ask us about an Essential Companion ticket.
We understand that people can be at different stages of diagnosis, assessment or applying for supporting documentation. Please contact us and we will work with you wherever possible.
Step-Free Access & Mobility
Strange Little Obsessions takes place at Crowne Plaza Nottingham.
The event spaces are accessible by lift and there is step-free access available within the venue.
Accessible toilet facilities are available at the hotel.
If you use a wheelchair, mobility scooter or walking aid, or have difficulty standing for long periods, please speak to a member of the SLO team if you need assistance.
Seating & Queuing
We understand that not everyone can stand or queue for extended periods.
If you need seating, cannot comfortably remain in a queue, or need another adjustment when waiting for an activity, guest, photo opportunity or session, please speak to us.
We will make reasonable adjustments wherever possible.
Wellbeing & Sensory Space
A dedicated wellbeing and sensory space will be available during the event.
This is somewhere you can step away from the main event if you need a quieter environment, time away from crowds or simply a moment to decompress.
You are welcome to use the space whenever you need it.
Noise, Crowds & Sensory Needs
Strange Little Obsessions is deliberately designed as a smaller, more relaxed event, but there will still be periods where areas become busy or noisy.
You are absolutely welcome to use headphones, ear defenders, sunglasses, communication aids, stim toys or anything else that helps you access the event comfortably.
If you need to leave a panel, screening or activity and return later, that’s fine too.
Panels & Activities
Seating is available for our panels, screenings and scheduled sessions.
If you need accessible seating, additional space for a wheelchair or mobility aid, or another reasonable adjustment, please let us know.
Where an activity has particular accessibility considerations, we will aim to include these in the activity information.
Assistance Dogs
Registered assistance dogs are welcome at the venue.
If you are attending with an assistance dog and there is anything we can do to make your visit easier, please contact us before the event.
Emergency Evacuation
The venue has emergency procedures in place for guests who may be unable to use stairs during an evacuation.
We are confirming the specific arrangements with the venue, including the availability of evacuation chairs and who is trained to operate them.
This section will be updated with the confirmed information before the event.
Hearing Support
We are currently confirming hearing and induction loop availability within the event spaces, particularly the Panel Room.
We will update this page as soon as the venue has confirmed the available facilities.
Hidden Disabilities & Individual Needs
Not every disability or access need is visible.
You do not need to explain or justify yourself to our volunteers or event team when asking for a reasonable adjustment on the day.
If you would feel more comfortable discussing your requirements before attending, please contact us in advance.
