Cosplay FAQ

We love cosplay at Strange Little Obsessions. Creativity, craftsmanship, and self-expression are very much encouraged. This guide is here to make sure everyone can enjoy the event safely and comfortably.

Do I have to cosplay?

Not at all.
Cosplay is welcome, not required. Come dressed up, dressed down, or somewhere in between. All are valid.

Are prop weapons allowed?

Some props are allowed, but safety comes first.

Not permitted:

  • Real or replica weapons of any kind
  • Bladed items (including knives, swords, axes, or spikes)
  • Firearms, airsoft, BB guns, or projectile props
  • Sharp, heavy, or metal props

May be permitted:

  • Foam or lightweight plastic props
  • Clearly non-functional items
  • Props that pose no risk in crowded spaces

All props are subject to staff approval. If in doubt, ask us in advance.

Will props be checked?

Yes.
Event staff may check props at entry or during the event. If something is deemed unsafe, you may be asked to remove it or leave it outside the venue.

These decisions are final and made to protect everyone attending.

Are masks, face paint, or special effects makeup allowed?

Yes, with care.

  • Masks must not fully restrict vision or breathing
  • Contact lenses must be safe, cosmetic lenses only
  • Prosthetics and makeup should be securely applied

If your costume significantly limits awareness or mobility, please take extra care in busy areas.

Is there a cosplay repair or changing area?

Details about changing areas or quiet spaces will be shared closer to the event. We aim to make things as accessible and stress-free as possible.

Can I bring large costumes or wings?

Large costumes are welcome, but please be mindful of:

  • Narrow walkways
  • Crowded areas
  • Other attendeesโ€™ personal space

If your costume is particularly wide, tall, or heavy, consider how manageable it will be throughout the day.

Is the event family-friendly?

Event guidance around age suitability will be clearly communicated.
Costumes that are excessively graphic, offensive, or inappropriate for the stated audience may be refused entry.

What happens if my costume causes an issue?

Weโ€™ll always aim to handle situations respectfully and discreetly.

However, Strange Little Obsessions reserves the right to:

  • Request costume or prop adjustments
  • Ask for items to be removed
  • Refuse entry or ask an attendee to leave if necessary

Safety and comfort for all attendees comes first.

Still unsure?

If youโ€™re questioning whether something is suitable, please contact us before the event.

Weโ€™re happy to help clarify so you can attend with confidence.
